One of the greatest natural wonders of Southern Africa is this
20km long canyon where wooded cliffs rise some 700m above the
Blyde River and 1400m sandstone peaks of The Three Rondavel's
stand majestically before Sundial Peak and the heights of Marieskop
in the mountainous distance. The Blydepoort Public Resort is in
a beautiful nature reserve. This region is in close proximity
to numerous places of interest and has many amenities and facilities.
Popular for its Nature Trails and Hiking Hills. Fauna is mainly
antelope with hippopotamus and crocodile in the lower parts of
the river.

At the edge of the Drakensberg, overlooking the lowveld, is the
timber centre of Graskop on the Panorama Route. This region is
known for its spectacular waterfalls in unusual names as Berlin,
Lisbon and Mac-Mac.
This is a great attraction for the tourist and when the aloes
are in bloom at Gods Window the visitor is treated to the added
delight of floral beauty.
BOURKES LUCK POTHOLES
Near the Treur and Blyde rivers a digger named Tom Bourke who
sought his fortune among the strange rock formations and potholes
gouged out by the swirling waters of the rivers. The museum provides
an insight into the history of this interesting area. The area
was named after Tom Burke because of his good fortune and luck
in finding gold at the bottom of the gourged out potholes.
PILGRIMS REST
In 1873, soon after panning in the stream, he found a few specks
of precious gold in the bottom of his pan. Soon the quiet valley
was a mass of tents. Pubs were built and the dance-hall girls
arrived. This town is as it was founded in 1873.
GRASKOP AREA
Graskop is on a spur of the Machberge range in a land of rocky
outcrops and trumbling falls. Near Blyde river is the 92 metre
high Lisbon Falls - a double cascade that plunges into rock pools
in the area. These falls are one of the highest in a land of waterfalls
- and perhaps one of the most impressive with white tumbling plunge
green hillsides and tall forests.

Sabie is also timber country with the world's largest man-made
forest, and biggest sawmill. Lone Creek falls is 13km west of
Sabie, and plunges 70m into a verdant abyss of fern and foliage.
The force of these tumbling waters creates a constant rain-forest
mist. Horseshoe falls are also unusual in that two streams side
by side drip from eroded rock ledges to form the shape of a horseshoe.
